Louis Theroux: The Ultra Zionists
My boy Louis spends time with Ultra Zionists who claim that ownership of the West Bank area in Israel is their divine right.
He also spends time with a few Palestinians who own the land under both Israeli and National law... They see these Jews moving in and are getting pissed. Many of the Palestinians feel that their land is being taken away, with many of the Jews illegally setting up camp in areas of the West Bank. There are skirmishes all the time in these areas, and the Jews are being treated like piss.
My description of this isn't all that great, because the situation is somewhat complicated... But the fact alone that someone views a piece of earth as rightfully theirs under the word of god is somewhat whack.

Totally Bill Hicks
Watch Totally Bill HicksI didn't know who Bill Hicks was until I clicked a link from some Joe Rogan bullshit I was watching & started laughing my ass off. He wasn't just funny, he spoke the truth about some far out shit. He was a well read guy, whether it was religion, politics, consumerism, or some other bullshit. This documentary is part stand up and part interviews with comedians and tv personalities that knew him. If I had to compare him to another comedian it would probably be George Carlin, but more direct and foul.

Death By Fire
This documentary, in my eyes, dumps a huge steamer on people who still believe that the death penalty is a good idea. Since 1976, when the Supreme Court lifted a ban on execution, Todd Willingham is the most prominent case of a person who was convicted and executed for a crime he may not have committed.
Basically, while his wife was gone, his house burned down and his three children were inside. He did not rush in to save their lives. Later that night he was seen at a bar playing darts, getting drunk, and having a good time. How fucked up is that? At first, you'd believe that he's the murderer. Further in, real experts with valid opinions will make their voices heard, and you'll realize that you were thinking like a southern idiot. Who cares if he gets drunk at a bar after? Who cares if he appears to be having a good time? All that matters is the real evidence. According to arson experts, there was nothing in the evidence presented at his 1992 trial that suggests it was an arson fire that killed his three children. Basically, Willingham is innocent.
Oops. Too bad. Already sentenced him to death, and he is on death row. But wait, the Governor can stop his death by haulting the execution, and he has 7 years to do it. Again, too bad the Governor is an idiot and relies on his instincts (wrong) rather than facts and rationality (right).
So Todd dies.
Check it out.

Missionaries of Hate
Watch Missionaries of HateUganda is 90% Christian, 10% Muslim, and 100% Fucked. This 45 min doc is one more piece of evidence answering the question "Are people fucking idiots?". For a while now, whitey douchebags like pastor Rick Warren (author of The Purpose Driven Life) have been exerting mind control on Ugandans. Not only do these people buy the christian books in droves, but they believe the bullshit they are told. As a result they hate gays... a lot. The legal debate in Uganda doesn't focus on civil unions or marriage, but instead on whether or not they should execute people just for being fags/lesbos.
This is done by Current TV at current.com. They make short documentaries about some interesting stuff, the kind of stuff you might not hear about otherwise. Usually they are important, but don't have much production value beyond doing great interviews.
Sometimes I catch myself blaming governments, corporations, and other institutions for nearly everything. In this case it should be blamed on the gullibility of poorly educated people (not that educated people are all that much better). Solutions to problems like these are hard to find, but I think I know where to start: Get rid of the god damned missionaries and start air dropping books like these.

Bloody Cartoons
Watch Bloody CartoonsI thought this was fitting, considering that today is the first annual "Everybody Draw Muhammad Day". Its hard to believe that this controversy was nearly five years ago. A Dane interviews what seems like everyone. The cartoonist, the Danish Prime Minister, a demonstrator, a bunch of imams, and journalists. What shocked me the most is how the muslim dudes in the film can talk about limits to freedom of speech with a straight face. One guy tried to rally Islamic nations together to put a ban on blasphemy and pressure the UN to do so as well. The same guy equates drawing the cartoons to the resulting violence (which caused the death of 100 ish people). I wish more corporations/newspapers/people wouldn't pussy out on this.

The Most Hated Family in Amuurhica
Watch The Most Hated Family In AmericaA Louis Theroux Joint, this feature concerns the Westboro Baptist Church, better known as the "God Hates Fags" church. Louis goes and lives with the family that heads this shit up and gets to know them. You get to know the individual members, some young children, some old and fucking crazy. In addition to gay-hating, these people are down with funeral protests and believe 9/11 was god's punishment for some bullshit. If you are watching this, there is a good probability that these people hate you.

Religulous
Watch ReligulousThis shit is pretty funny and gets serious towards the end. Mostly about christian and muslim fundamentalism. Maher goes to a Creationist Museum in Kentucky, which shows that dinosaurs and people lived at the same time 5000 years ago. He talks to truckers at a Truckers' Chapel (Sign outside: 'Jesus love you.'). He goes to a theme park called Holy Land in Florida. He speaks to a rabbi in league with Holocaust deniers. He talks to a Muslim musician who preaches hatred of Jews. Maher finds the unlikeliest of believers and, in a certain Vatican priest, he even finds an unlikely skeptic. If you are looking for serious criticism of religion, read a book. If you want to laugh at people for believing crazy things, this is for you.

Jesus Camp

An honest view of an extremely religious evangelical summer camp. At points in the movie it gets a little ridiculous and you can't believe these fucking people. A must watch if you want to understand something about evangelicals in the USA.
